Ichikawa Danjuro as Kato Kiyomasa Looking Back from the Coast of Korea

Comments - Terrific kabuki portrait of Ichikawa Danjuro as Kato Kiyomasa standing on the shore of Korea, looking back at Mt. Fuji across the ocean. Kiyomasa was one of the three senior commanders during the Seven-Year War with Korea, and here he scans the horizon for his homeland. He shields his eyes with a gloved hand, staring ahead with a solemn expression. He wears a fine suit of armor over a blue print robe, his hair pulled back into a ponytail tightly tied with white cord. His long gray beard trails over his chest. A fantastic, bold design, with the large figure set against the undulating waves and the warm glow of the horizon. Detailed with extensive burnishing in the armor and fine line work in the hair and beard.
