Princess Omodaka and Tobacco Seller, 1888

Comments - Interesting kabuki scene of the tobacco seller Tabakoya Genshichi tuning a shamisen as he prepares to entertain the Princess Omodaka. He looks up at her solemnly as he adjusts a string on the instrument, the beauty watching him quietly. She wears a red kimono patterned with cherry blossoms, a cluster of tiny flowers adorning her hair. The samurai at right holds two pipes of tobacco the vender has urged him to try, his sword in his other hand. At left, a matron waits outside the garden gate, carrying a woven hat, a cloth bundle tied around her shoulders. A flowering cherry tree frames the red sky overhead. A handsome design with bold color.

Image Size - 13 5/8" x 28"

Condition - This print with excellent color and detail as shown. Three attached panels, backed with paper. Light diagonal crease in each panel. Slight toning. Please see photos for details. Good overall.
