A London Collection - This item is from an exceptional group of triptychs recently purchased from a London estate. The collection includes a significant number of rare designs – many that we have never sold or seen offered. The overall condition of the prints is outstanding with clean, bright subjects. There is almost no wear, soiling, or storage offsetting. Look for rare designs by Yoshitoshi, Chikanobu, Gekko and others. Shop the auctions marked “A London Collection” for an opportunity to add some especially rare triptychs to your collection.

Comments - Charming illustration of a young boy playing with a pet turtle tied to a cord under the watchful eye of his elderly grandparents. He smiles cheerfully as he looks up, the reptile trying to crawl away from him. His grandmother looks down at him affectionately, bending forward with her hands clasped behind her back. The old man sits on a straw-wrapped bale at right, leaning on a bamboo cane. A delightful image with expressive figures, beautifully detailed with delicate, allover cloth embossing in the background. Chikanobu received a certificate of merit for this subject from the Third National Industrial Exposition held in Tokyo in 1890.

Artist - Chikanobu (1838 - 1912)
