Samurai Dancing, 1886

Comments - Intriguing kabuki scene of a samurai dancing before a seated daimyo. The young samurai frowns unhappily as he waves a folding fan in one hand, staring at the nobleman. He looks back with a scowl, wearing an elegant black kimono patterned with a dragon. A courtesan kneels at his side, smiling as she holds a sake server to fill the cup in the daimyo's extended hang. The folding screen behind them features crane in flight, and open door provides a view of Mt. Fuji framed by a blossoming plum tree. Nicely detailed with a subtle burnished pattern in the black kimono, and embossed lines on the fan.

Image Size - 13 1/4" x 8 7/8" + margins as shown
