Samurai and Celestial Being, 1903

Comments - Interesting kabuki scene of a group of samurai being visited by a tennin or celestial being. She stands at right, waving her arms. She wears an ornate headdress with a phoenix and beaded trim, and a narrow red and yellow cloud print sash flutters around her head. The nobleman at top center holds up a small orb with writing on it. The warrior seated below him stares at the tennin while extending his hand towards the man beside him in a stopping motion. The actors in the right panel are Ichimura Uzaemon as Imagawa Yoshitmoto and Onoe Baiko 4.6 as the tennin. Nice expressive figures, with attractive color and fine line work in the hair.

Artist - Kunisada III (1848 - 1920)

Image Size - 14" x 28 1/4" + margins as shownwd

Condition - This print with excellent color and detail as shown. Three separate panels. Creasing, slight soiling at a few small spots. Please see photos for details. Good overall.
