Original Kunichika (1835 - 1900) Japanese Woodblock Print
Parody of the Backstage Dressing Room, 1864

Comments - Handsome kabuki double portrait of a couple in front of a large paper lantern decorated with writing and a circular crest. The beauty looks over her shoulder with a bemused smile, holding a fan with a floral design. She wears a blue kimono with a white crosshatch design over a red under robe, a blue cloth pinned to the top of her head. The man frowns grimly, a light blue cloth in his hand. A blue border runs across the top of the page, featuring small squares with crests and a large circular crest that matches the one on the lantern. An interesting design.

Artist - Kunichika (1835 - 1900)

Image Size - 13 5/8" x 9 1/4"

Condition - This print with excellent color and detail as shown. A couple small tears at edges, a couple small holes, repaired. Slight soiling, very slight rubbing at lower left. Please see photos for details. Good overall.
