Noh Performance at the Imperial Palace, 1878

Comments - Charming scene of the Meiji Empress attending a Noh theater performance at the Imperial Palace. The empress sits in a Western style chair, wearing a lavender floral kimono over a white robe tucked into red hakama pants. Two princesses kneel in the foreground, smiling happily, with ladies-in-waiting surrounding the royal group. A folding screen behind them features a lion and peonies, and male members of the audience are seated on the other side of the stage at upper right. Nicely detailed and vibrantly colored.

Artist - Chikanobu (1838 - 1912)

Image Size - 14" x 9 3/8" + margins as shown

Condition - This print with excellent color and detail as shown. A couple small holes, repaired. Slight creasing, slight soiling near edges. Please see photos for details. Good overall.
