New Kyogen Performance at the Kabuki-za, 1892

Comments - Great kabuki scene of two warriors battling, with Ichikawa Danjuro IX as Nitta Yoshisada at right fighting a samurai played by Ichikawa Yaozo VII. Yoshisada raises his sword above his head, his hair flying wildly around his face as he grimaces at his enemy. His opponent thrusts his naginata forward, wearing a fine suit of armor over a red and yellow scroll patterned robe, and a horned battle helmet topped with his circular crest. Arrows litter the ground around the pair, and the banners and standards of approaching troops can be seen above the distant trees at left. A bold composition with wonderfully detailed, large figures, and lively color.

Artist - Kunisada III (1848 - 1920)

Image Size - 14 1/4" x 28" + margins as shown

Condition - This print with excellent color and detail as shown. Three attached panels. A few tiny tears at edges, repaired. Creasing, slight soiling. Please see photos for details. Good overall.
