Lion Dancers at New Year's

Goyo Studio Reprints - Hashiguchi Goyo is the undisputed master of the 20th century shin-hanga movement. A secondary part of his career was reprinting beautiful old ukiyo-e designs from the golden age of the Japanese woodblock print. Between 1918 and 1920, much of Goyo’s artistic work was devoted to creating these incredible woodblock reprints of classic ukiyo-e prints. Each image was painstakingly copied from an original and stamped with the Goyo circular seal. Line by line, color by color, the prints were recreated in Goyo’s studio to perfectly emulate these masterworks of ukiyo-e. Goyo took pride in this work and the release of his reprints was met with great acclaim.

Today, original Goyo reprints are highly sought after by collectors and rare to find. This is an exceptional opportunity!

Comments - Wonderful design showing lion dancers performing in the street at the New Year, accompanied by musicians playing flute and drum. A beauty holds a small child in her arms to watch the entertainment. Nicely detailed with fine line work and soft color.

Artist - Utamaro (1750 - 1806)

Image Size - 6 3/4" x 11" + margins as shown

Condition - This print excellent color and detail as shown. Slight paper remnants or thinning on reverse at one edge from original folio mounting. Faint toning. Please see photos for details. Good overall.
