Needlework

Comments - Fantastic Utamaro scene of beauties doing needlework. A beauty in a sheer black kimono holds the end of a length of red tied-dyed fabric, looking down with concentration. A few other scraps of cloth rest on the floor nearby. Behind her, a young woman reaches her hand into an insect cage. A charming design with beautiful detail and soft color, with delicate embossing in the tie-dyed cloth. A wonderful scene from daily life.

Artist - Utamaro (1750 - 1806)

Image Size - 15 1/8" x 10 1/8" + margins as shown

Condition - This print with excellent color and detail as shown. Paper remnants on reverse at top edge from previous mounting. Please note, what looks like thinning at bottom edges is actually the deckle (natural) edge of the handmade paper. A few faint creases. Please see photos for details. Good overall.
