Original Kiyochika (1847 - 1915) Japanese Woodblock Print
Illustration of the Attack and Occupation of Tienchuangtai (Denshodai), 1895

Comments - Dramatic depiction of the attack at Tienchuangtai (Denshodai) during the Sino-Japanese War. Gusts of wind and snow slash across the scene in dynamic, embossed diagonal lines, driving over the troops huddled behind a barrier of brush wood. The men are warped in heavy coats and hoods, with mufflers covering the bottoms of their faces as they crouch in wait. The silhouettes of fluttering flags can barely been seen at far left. A fantastic image, also in the collection of the Boston Museum of Fine Arts.

Artist - Kiyochika (1847 - 1915)

Image Size - 13 1/4" x 27 3/4" + top margin as shown

Condition - This print with excellent color and detail as shown. Three separate panels. Paper remnants on reverse at edges from previous mounting. Small loss at lower right edge of center panel, a few small holes, repaired. A few vertical folds, creasing, slight soiling, light ink offsetting. Please see photos for details. Good overall.
