Oi River Crossing, 1860

Comments - Fantastic scene of Prince Genji and a group of beauties waiting to cross the Oi River. The young nobleman stands in the center holding a pipe, a woman kneeling at his side with a lacquer tobacco set. At right, a beauty stands beside a fine enclosed palanquin, smiling shyly at her companion as she fans herself. She wears a lovely kimono patterned with chrysanthemums, and her hair is adorned with flowers and ribbons. Behind them, porters carry a palanquin across the water, while other men lead horses or carry travelers on their backs. A terrific image with lovely color and detail, including soft bokashi shading in the water and sky and burnishing in the black trim on Genji's robe.

Artist - Yoshiiku (1833 - 1904)

Image Size - 13 3/4" x 27 1/4"

Condition - With excellent color and detail. Three panels, not attached at the seams. Faint soiling and spotting in subject. Please see photos for details. Nice overall.
