Prisoner Brought before Noblemen, 1876

Comments - Interesting kabuki scene of Ichikawa Danjuro IX as a prisoner brought before a nobleman. He sits at left, his torso and arms bound with rope, staring ahead at his captors. The man in the center glares back at him, his long stringy hair combed straight down at the sides. The fellow at right grimaces angrily, wearing a coat with a red body and a green and yellow paulownia print on the shoulders and sleeves, a tall black court cap tied beneath his chin. Softly shaded blue and white draperies overhead bear a paulownia pattern as well. Nice expressive figures with fine line work in the hair, and a beautiful burnished pattern in the black cap.

Artist - Yoshitoshi (1839 - 1892)

Image Size - 14" x 28 1/4"

Condition - This print with excellent detail as shown. Three separate panels, backed with paper. Slight soiling and rubbing, a few creases and wrinkles. Please see photos for details. Good overall.
