Original Kuniyoshi (1797 - 1861) Japanese Woodblock Print
On a Bridge

Comments - Attractive image of a young beauty standing on a bridge, a reference to the famous fight on Gojo Bridge between Benkei and Ushiwakamaru (the young Yoshitsune). She smiles as she looks over her shoulder, the breeze blowing the wisps of hair framing her face. She holds a small fertility symbol called a naginata-hozuki, made of ground cherries (hozuki). Her boldly checked kimono is tied with a gray obi patterned with tsuba or sword guards. A lovely portrait set off by the deep blue shading of the background.

Artist - Kuniyoshi (1797 - 1861)

Image Size - 14" x 9 5/8"

Condition - This print with excellent color and detail as shown. A few wormholes and small holes, repaired. Slight soiling, a few creases. Please see photos for details. Good overall.
