Nakamura Shikan IV as Shimobe Gunpei, 1865

Comments - Handsome kabuki portrait of Nakamura Shikan IV as Shimobe Gunpei, waiting outside a doorway. He frowns unhappily as he looks to the side, gripping a dotted towel in one hand, and holding onto a strap over his shoulder attached to two bundles. His green and white kimono is tucked up at the waist for easier movement, and he wears black leggings and wrist guards. The shoji window behind him is covered with large writing. A nice expressive figure in an interesting setting.

Artist - Kunisada II (1823 - 1880)

Image Size - 13 5/8" x 9 1/4" + left margin as shown

Condition - The print with excellent color and detail as shown. Stitching holes along right edge from previous folio binding, one hole, slight thinning at lower left edge, repaired. A few creases. Please see photos for details. Good overall.
