Beauty Arranging a Child's Hair Kakemono, 1843 - 1847 - Charming kakemono or vertical diptych of a mother sitting with her child between her knees as she arranges the boy's hair. She holds the comb between her teeth as she gathers his topknot together with her hands, her son patiently amusing himself by nibbling on a flower from the basket of tiny fruits, vegetables, and blossoms at his side. The beauty wears a gray kimono striped with rows of lighter gray dots, tied with a brown obi. Her hair is pulled back into a knot, adorned with a decorative hairpin that features an adorable cat pawing at a dangling bell. A lovely, sweet image from this attractive series, also in the collection of the Boston Museum of Fine Arts.

Image Size - 26 1/8" x 8 5/8"
