Ichikawa Danjuro VIII as Kanja Yoshitaka, 1854

Comments - Great kabuki portrait of Ichikawa Danjuro VIII as the warrior Kanja Yoshitaka. He stares down with an angry grimace, his brows furrowed and his hands thrust out at his sides. He wears a rust colored kimono patterned with paulownia and trimmed with fringe over a suit of armor, his two swords at his side. His hair sticks up wildly atop his head, with longer locks falling over his shoulders. A handsome design with an expressive figure, fine bokashi shading in the night sky, and intricate detail in the swinging fringe.

Artist - Toyokuni III/Kunisada (1786 - 1864)

Image Size - 13 1/4" x 9 1/2"

Condition - This print with excellent color and detail as shown. Backed with thin paper. Wormholes and losses along left edge, a few additional holes, repaired. A few stains and creases, slight soiling. Please see photos for details.
