Original Toyokuni III/Kunisada (1786 - 1864) Japanese Woodblock Print
Scowling Man and Angry Matron, circa 1848

Comments - Handsome design from an untitled series of kabuki double portraits by Toyokuni III. Each image depicts the actors on vertical panels with strong wood grain, set against a solid-color background in tones of blue, gray, or tan, with a verse above. The expressive figures are beautifully detailed with fine line work in the hair. Some feature deluxe printing treatments such as embossing or burnishing. An interesting and unusual format from a rarely seen series.

Artist - Toyokuni III/Kunisada (1786 - 1864)

Image Size - 14 1/4" x 9 5/8"

Condition - This print with excellent color and detail as shown. Backed with paper. A couple small holes, repaired with backing. Slight soiling, a few light creases. Please see photos for details. Good overall.
