Series; Eight Views of Yokohama in Bushu

Returning Sails at the Wharves, 1861 - Fantastic portrait of an American couple standing on the pier in Yokohama, watching as a steamship sails into the harbor. The woman wears a short red jacket and a full gray hoop skirt, her head topped with an unusual headdress with long green feathers, reminiscent of Native American headdresses. The man wears a black button front military jacket with red patches and gold trim on the shoulder, and a black hat with a gold insignia on the front. Smoke billows across the sky from the ship, and a few white sails dot the horizon at right. A terrific Yokohama design with wonderful detail and attractive color.

Artist - Yoshitora (active circa 1840 - 1880)

Image Size - 13 7/8" x 9"

Condition - This print with excellent color and detail as shown. Vertical fold near left edge. A few holes, slight separation at ends of fold, repaired. Wrinkling, very slight soiling. Please see photos for details.
