Series; Twelve Months of Beauties
April: Peonies, 1898 - Attractive view of a garden in April, with two beauties admiring the peony blossoms sheltered beneath a roofed structure at left. The flowers are beautifully detailed with faint embossing and soft shading. At right, a woman and a young girl look out across the garden into the distance. Detailed with burnishing in the black obi and women's hair, and touches of silver mica in the elegant fabrics. A charming spring subject.
