Moon Viewing at Takanawa on the Night of the Twenty-sixth, circa 1840 - 1842 - Handsome Hiroshige print of the busy shore at Takanawa in Edo on a summer night. The bustling street is crowded with pedestrians and porters carrying palanquins, and customers fill the teahouses at left, enjoying a view of the water and waiting for the moon to rise. On the twenty-sixth night of the eighth month, people gathered for moon viewing parties, enjoying food and drink and creating poems. The harbor is filled with boats anchored for the night as twilight begins to fall. A charming subject.
