Outer Chiyoda Palace - In 1897, Chikanobu completed a companion series to his "Inner Chiyoda Palace" published the year before. The "Outer Chiyoda Palace" series focuses on the activities of men at Edo Castle. Scenes include life both inside and outside the palace walls, recording ceremonies and rituals, along with formal processions and exciting sporting events. The complete set consists of 31 triptychs and one 6-panel design of a feudal procession at Ueno, for a total of 32 subjects. The figures, clothing, and settings are rendered with fine detail and attractive color, and many include deluxe embellishments such as embossing and burnishing. A terrific look at the daily activities of the shogun and his court in the Outer Chiyoda Palace during the Edo era.

This presentation - We are pleased to offer this rare, complete set of 32 Outer Chiyoda images plus a diptych title page. There are 31 triptychs and one 6-panel design for a total of 32 subjects. Please note, the 6-panel feudal procession design is shown as two separate triptychs for ease of viewing. The prints are backed with paper and attached side to side and back to back, accordion style at sides only, which could be separated into loose prints if desired. One panel each is mounted to the inner front and inner back covers of each album, along all four edges. The prints are beautifully colored with no fading. A fantastic opportunity to acquire to acquire Chikanobu's wonderful "Outer Chiyoda Palace" series in its entirety.

Size - Each triptych 14" x 27 5/8"; each closed album 14" x 9 1/4" x 5/8"
Condition - Prints: Excellent color and detail. Backed with paper as part of the folio assembly. Light toning and slight soiling, a few prints have a few small spots. Some offsetting on a few subjects from folio storage, as is typical. Prints mounted to covers are wrinkled and creased. Album: Covers slightly soiled, with wear at edges and slight fraying at corners. Please see photos for detail. In good condition overall.
