Nakamura Utaemon IV as Inugawa Sosuke

Series; The Loyal Heroes of the Hakkenden, 1847 - 1848

The Loyal Heroes of the Hakkenden - Terrific kabuki portrait of one of the Eight Dog Warriors from the famous story "The Biography of Nanso Satomi and the Eight Dog Warriors" (Nanso Satomi Hakkenden). These great samurai were the mystical offspring of Fusehime, the daughter of Lord Anzai of the Satomi Clan, and a dog, hence the small dogs in the corner of the title cartouche. Featuring dramatic compositions and expressive figures, these bold designs are a great choice for a collector interested in the samurai tradition. A rarely seen Kuniyoshi series.

Nakamura Utaemon IV as Inugawa Sosuke - Great image of Nakamura Utaemon IV as the samurai Inugawa Sosuke. He looks intently over his shoulder with a stern grimace, his hand on the hilt of his sword, ready to draw his weapon. He wears a dark blue kimono patterned with rows of white designs and lined with red. A pine tree frames the scene overhead and a few green leaves tinged with yellow fall down through the sky. A handsome composition with fine line work in the hair.
