Loyalty: Sato Shirobyoe Tadanobu - Dramatic scene of the samurai Sato Shirobyoe Tadanobu on the roof of a house, using his sword to slice through the arrows fired at him by a group of warriors on the ground. One of Minamoto no Yoshitsune's most trusted and loyal retainers, Tadanobu holds the blade between his hands, leaning forward with a determined expression, his long hair and rob whipping about him. A full moon glows behind a dark haze in the night sky, providing and atmospheric setting framed by tree trunks and foliage. A great composition, nicely detailed and colored, also in the collection of the Boston Museum of Fine Arts.
