Elderly Warrior and Young Boys

Comments - Intriguing kabuki scene of an elderly warrior with a hand drum on his shoulder and two young boys facing each other with swords. The white-haired samurai glares angrily at the warrior at left, who frowns back at him. One of the boys lunges forward with his weapon, smiling slightly, while the other grips his sword above his head with both hands, a worried expression on his face. The matron at right looks up with an eager grin, watching the elder closely. The figures are set off by a deep red background bordered with a simulated black lacquer frame. Nicely detailed with embossing in the white hair.

Artist - Chikashige (active circa 1869 - 1882)

Image Size - 13 7/8" x 27 7/8" + margins as shown

Condition - With excellent color and detail as shown. Three separate panels. A few small holes, repaired. Creasing, slight soiling. Please see photos for details. Good overall.
