Series; Flowers of Edo in Old times

First Attendance of Lords at the Castle at New Year's, 1888 - Lively scene of daimyos' processions outside Chiyoda Palace as they arrive for the first attendance of the New Year. The embankment is crowded with retainers walking in groups, led by porters shouldering heavy trunks. An enclosed palanquin can be seen in the midst of the crowd at center, and another group men cross the arched wooden bridge over the moat. The stone walls of the castle stretch across the background, with treetops visible inside the complex. A fascinating scene with wonderful detail, including embossing in the white robes and fine bokashi shading in the water and sky.

Artist - Chikanobu (1838 - 1912)

Image Size - 14" x 27 5/8" + margins as shown

Condition - This print with excellent color and detail as shown. Three separate panels. A few small holes, a few short cuts from printing process in left panel, repaired. Slight soiling, a few creases, pencil (?) mark in left panel. Please see photos for details. Good overall.
