Furious Fight during a Great Snowstorm, 1894

Comments - Dramatic Sino-Japanese War scene illustrating a battle taking place in the snow. At bottom center, a Chinese soldier is crushed beneath his own horse as it tumbles onto its back, the animal's severed leg lying bleeding in the snow nearby. Behind him, a Japanese officer on horseback raises his sword above his head, ready to strike the Chinese horseman in his path. Other Meiji warriors rush forward out of the brush at right, while additional troops chase the enemy through the snowy landscape at left. Clumps of snow fly, kicked up by the commotion, while snowflakes fall heavily against the wintry gray sky. An action-packed image capturing the brutality of war.
