Russian Soldiers Surrender to Japanese Forces at the Battle of Chiu-lieu-cheng, 1904

Comments - Dramatic illustration from the Russo-Japanese War from the Battle of Chiu-lieu-cheng. A Japanese soldier lunges forward to grab the collar of a Russian, pulling him backwards, with his arms and leg flailing. A broken gun carriage lies at right alongside abandoned guns, while at left, a fallen enemy lies next to a cannon. In the distance Japanese troops begin are attacking a gun emplacement atop a hill, while below, a medic wearing a red cross band on his arm carries a stretcher. An incredible image, beautifully drawn and realistically rendered, with a hand applied spray of reddish-brown pigment as flying dust and fine bokashi shading. A bold design.

Artist - Getsuzo (active circa 1904 - 1905)

Image Size - 14" x 27 3/4"

Condition - This print with excellent color and detail as shown. Three separate panels, backed with paper. A few faint creases. Please see photos for details. Nice overall.
