Autumn Grasses

Shoko Uemura - The eldest son of the famous painter Shoen Uemura, Shoko Uemura continued the family tradition by studying nihonga (Japanese style painting). He earned acclaim for his beautiful, lyrical kacho-ga or birds and flowers paintings, which combine creativity with tradition. In 1983, the Japanese government honored him as a "Person of Cultural Merit," and a year later he received the prestigious "Order of Culture" for his artistic contributions to Japanese culture. Prints by Shoko Uemura are rarely seen on the market.

Comments - Beautiful autumn scene of a bird among grasses and blue flowers. The bird seems to look out with a quizzical eye beneath the gracefully arching grasses rendered with silver mica and ochre pigment. The entire page is toned with a subtle yellow green, infusing the design with warmth, accented by the bright touches of blue and deep red. A lovely large format birds and flowers design that would make a striking framed presentation.
