Utamaro (1750 - 1806) Japanese Woodblock Reprint
Beauty under the Mosquito Netting

From a Meiji collection of reprints, over 100 years old - This print is offered with a small group of reprints collected in the early 20th century (ca. 1920) by a Tokyo collector. The reprints that we are offering this evening were collected nearly 100 years ago and have the beautiful sense of age expected of the period. They are finely printed and well preserved. We have just a few of these lovely old reprints. Available for a small fraction of the cost of an original, they are perfect to frame and display or collect.

Comments - Lovely image of a young beauty kneeling behind the mosquito netting used in summertime, reading a letter by the light of a lamp. She leans forward, examining the message closely as she holds the scroll between her hands. Incredible fine line work in the netting, with a delicate embossed pattern over the beauty's face to indicate the netting. A terrific, high quality reprint that would make a wonderful display.

Artist - Utamaro (1750 - 1806)

Image Size - 15" x 10" + margins as shown

Condition - This print with excellent color and detail as shown. Slightly darkened with age. Small tear repaired at edge. Please see photos for details. Very nice overall.
