Ichikawa Danjuro VII as Banzui Chobei

Series; An Evening of Storytelling (Kodan Isseki Banashi)

Ichikawa Danjuro VII as Banzui Chobei - Dramatic kabuki scene of Ichikawa Danjuro VII as the otokodate or street knight Banzui Chobei, covered with bloody handprints after a gruesome battle in a bathhouse. He drinks from a wooden bucket, the water splashing over his chest, wearing a white robe patterned with kanji characters. A broken spear protrudes from his thigh, blood flowing from the wound, and a bloody print on the edge of the tub behind him serves as additional evidence of the struggle. His face has a faint bluish tinge around the eyes, indicating that his death is imminent. A fantastic, if rather gory portrait, detailed with fine line work in the flowing hair and delicate embossing in the robe.
