Kyoto by Shigenobu I (1787 - 1832)

Original Shigenobu I (1787 - 1832) Japanese Woodblock Print
Kyoto

Series; From an untitled series of the Fifty-three Stations of the Tokaido Road, circa 1804

Kyoto - Handsome depiction of noblemen outside a shrine, with two smiling men seated under a pine tree, dressed in formal court attire. Another man walks past, carefully holding an object upright in his hands, his long sash trailing on the ground behind him as Shinto priests watch, just their heads and shoulders visible along the bottom edge of the scene. This design was created by Shigenobu in the style of Hokusai, for addition to an 1804 Tokaido Road series by Hokusai, for which no scene of Kyoto is known. The Boston Museum of Fine Arts has this image in its collection. A nice design with an interesting story, from a later printing of this subject.

Artist - Shigenobu I (1787 - 1832)

Image Size - 4 5/8" x 6 1/2"

Condition - This print with excellent color and detail as shown. A couple faint creases. Please see photos for details. Nice overall.
