Rain, 1961 by Jinbo Tomoyo (1902 - 1994)

Original Jinbo Tomoyo (1902 - 1994) Japanese Woodblock Print
Rain, 1961

Comments - Lovely shin hanga portrait of a beauty opening her umbrella on a rainy evening. She wears a lavender kimono bordered with small colorful squares over an aqua kimono striped with metallic silver pigment. Her hair is pulled back into a large bun, softly framing her face. A warm yellow glow comes from the windows and lanterns of the building behind her, the reflections shimmering on the wet pavement, and a blue banner with writing on it can be seen at right. The title "Rain" (ame in Japanese) is embossed in the bottom margin. A charming image with delicate color and fine bokashi shading in the night sky. An attractive design by a rarely seen artist.

Image Size - 15 3/8" x 10" + margins as shown
