Boys' Day

Series; The Five Festivals

Boys' Day - Charming portrait of a beauty and a young boy who is celebrating Boys' Day, one of the five traditional annual festivals in Japan. He gleefully waves a sword made of braided iris leaves, swinging it above his head. The beauty stares down at him with a slightly annoyed expression, a small cloth bag hanging from her mouth. The child wears a boldly checked blue and white kimono, and has another iris leaf tied around his forehead in imitation of a warrior's headband. The woman wears a blue and yellow plaid kimono tied with a black obi that reverses to a floral print, a cloth bundle under one arm. Boy's Day banners are arranged in a rack at right, and flowering purple irises frame the title cartouche at upper left. An attractive image, nicely colored.

Artist - Kuniyasu (1794 - 1832)

Image Size - 14" x 9 5/8"

Condition - With excellent color and detail as shown. One wormhole, a couple small holes, repaired, blends well. A few creases. Please see photos for details. Good overall.
