Priest by Shunsho (1726 - 1792)

Original Shunsho (1726 - 1792) Japanese Woodblock Print
Priest

Comments - Fine Edo era kabuki portrait of an actor as a monk or priest. He stares back over his shoulder with an unhappy frown, a long string of prayer beads dangling from his hand. His dark hair is cropped close, or perhaps is growing out from having been shaved. One sleeve of his gray outer robe has been pushed down to the waist, revealing a pale orange under robe edged with a darker orange trim. A great expressive figure.

Artist - Shunsho (1726 - 1792)

Image Size - 5 1/2" x 12 1/4"

Condition - This print with excellent detail. A few small holes and losses repaired from reverse. Some rubbing and soiling. A few creases as shown. Please see photos for details.
