Meiji Emperor and Empress in Peony Garden, 1883

Comments - Handsome scene of the Meiji Emperor and Empress enjoying a visit to a peony garden. Dressed in a black military uniform and plumed hat, the emperor sits on a chair at left, while the empress stands at right, smiling down at one of her ladies-in-waiting. She wears a purple robe with a design of birds in flight and swirling clouds over full red hakama pants. Large peonies in red and yellow frame a view of an extensive pond with a willow tree at right and a bridge leading across the water. An attractive design with lively color.

Image Size - 14" x 18 3/4" + margins as shown

Condition - This print with excellent color and detail as shown. Two separate panels. Tiny loss at one top corner, two small holes in top margins, repaired. A few creases. Please see photos for details. Good overall.
