Comments - Handsome scene of the Meiji Emperor and Empress enjoying a visit to a peony garden. Dressed in a black military uniform and plumed hat, the emperor sits on a chair at left, while the empress stands at right, smiling down at one of her ladies-in-waiting. She wears a purple robe with a design of birds in flight and swirling clouds over full red hakama pants. Large peonies in red and yellow frame a view of an extensive pond with a willow tree at right and a bridge leading across the water. An attractive design with lively color.
