New Kyogen Performance at the Kabuki-za: Sagi Musume, 1892

Comments - Terrific kabuki portrait of Ichikawa Danjuro IX as the Heron Maiden in the play "Sagi Musume," carrying an umbrella as snow falls over the scene. She looks over her shoulder with a solemn expression, holding her arm out at the side. She wears a white kimono with a beautiful embossed pattern, lined with red and tied with a burnished black obi, a white hood covering her hair. Her red under robe also has a white collar with a different embossed design. Willow branches frame the gray winter sky at right. A striking and bold composition, beautifully detailed.

Artist - Toshihide (1863 - 1925)

Image Size - 14" x 28" + margins as shown

Condition - This print with excellent color and detail as shown. Three attached panels. Small thinning spot at lower left edge, repaired. Creasing, slight soiling, red stain near right edge. Please see photos for details.
