Series; Alphabet Proverbs for Actors

Kawarazaki Gonjuro I as Akushichibyoe Kagekiyo, 1867 - Intriguing kabuki portrait of Kawarazaki Gonjuro I as the evil warrior Akushichibyoe Kagekiyo. He wears a straw mat from a sake cask covering as a coat, and has a tattered scarf tied around his head. He looks up with a sullen frown, leaning on a walking stick wearing a colorful kimono over his suit of armor. An intriguing portrait with the figure nicely set off by a rich blue background, with insets of proverbs above. Nicely detailed with faint cloth embossing in the scarf.

Artist - Kunichika (1835 - 1900)

Image Size - 13 7/8" x 9 3/8"

Condition - With excellent color and detail as shown. Slight paper remnants on reverse at top corners from previous folio mounting. Slight soiling, a few small spots. Please see photos for details. Good overall.
