Beauty Styling Her Hair

Series; Eight Views of Tea Stalls in Celebrated Places

Meiji printing - This print was produced in the early 20th century (pre 1910) and has the beautiful sense of age expected of the period. This is one of the finest copies of this print we have ever had. It is finely printed and well preserved. The print appears original and could easily be mistaken as an original Utamaro. Available for a small fraction of the cost of an original, it is perfect to frame and display. Only you’ll know it didn’t cost thousands!

Lovely large head portrait of a beauty combing her hair, smoothing it back across the top of her head. A few loose wisps frame her face as she smiles happily. Her hair is pulled back into a large sleek bun, the side wings stretched out over a curved wooden support. She wears a finely checked outer kimono with a black collar, over a gray tied-dyed under robe. A charming design rarely seen in reprint, with fine line work and traces of mica in the background.

Artist - Utamaro (1750 - 1806)

Image Size - 15" x 9 7/8" + margins as shown

Condition - With excellent color and detail as shown. A few small tears at bottom edge, most repaired. Slight thinning. Please see photos for details. Good overall.
