Nakamura Fukusuke I as Koganosuke, 1859

Comments - Handsome kabuki portrait of Nakamura Fukusuke I as the young samurai Koganosuke in the play "Immoseyama Onna Teikin." He stands on the bank of a rushing river, looking over his shoulder with a happy grin. He wears a plum colored coat patterned with delicate leaves over a matching kimono tucked into striped hakama pants, and clunky wooden sandals. His topknot is tied with a white cord and neatly combed forward over his head. White cherry blossoms frame the clear blue sky overhead. A charming design with soft shading in the water and sky.

Artist - Toyokuni III/Kunisada (1786 - 1864)

Image Size - 14" x 9 3/4" + margins as shown

Condition - With excellent color and detail as shown. Small loss at top left corner, a few wormholes, repaired. Toning and wrinkling. Creasing, slight soiling. Please see photos for details. Good overall.
