Nakamura Fukusuke I as the Priest Kisen, 1854

Comments - Handsome kabuki portrait of Nakamura Fukusuke I as the priest Kisen, who meets a beautiful teashop waitress while visiting a temple. He leans forward with a grin, gripping the bamboo handle of a large umbrella trimmed with a tie-dyed ruffle. He wears a black priest's robe over a white embossed kimono shaded in yellow, a pink cloth wrapped about his head. A young boy dances about in front of him, hopping on one foot and waving a fan. An interesting design.

Artist - Toyokuni III/Kunisada (1786 - 1864)

Image Size - 13 7/8" x 9 3/4" + top margin as shown

Condition - With excellent color and detail as shown. Stitching holes along left edge from previous folio binding, repaired. Slight soiling. Please see photos for details. Good overall.
