Comments - Interesting kabuki double portrait of two men, one holding up a letter as he reads it. He stares at the message with wide-eyed frown as he unrolls the paper. The fellow at lower right grimaces and twists his head in an awkward, uncomfortable manner. He wears a blue and gray kimono, a blue and white cloth tied around his upper arm. From left, the actors are Kawarazaki Gonjuro I as Katanaya Hanshichi and Ichikawa Kodanji IV. Nice expressive figures with fine line work in the hair, set off by a rich blue background.
