The Wedding of Prince Yoshihito, Son of the Meiji Emperor, 1900

Comments - Terrific view of the wedding ceremony of Crown Prince Yoshihito in 1900, the son of the Meiji Emperor and Empress, who watch from behind a fine reed blind at right. The prince wears a black robe with a beautiful burnished pattern and a court cap. His intended sits across from him, holding a small sake cup and wearing an ornate headdress like that of the empress. A low table behind the group is set with symbols of longevity and good luck for the couple's future, including a bonsai pine tree, a turtle, cranes, and the elderly couple Jo and Uba, who represent love and fidelity. A beautifully detailed image with embossing in the white kimono trim and additional burnishing in the hair and the black edge of the platform.

Artist - Nobukazu (1874 - 1944)

Image Size - 14 1/8" x 27 7/8" + margins as shown

Condition - With excellent color and detail as shown. Three separate panels. A few small holes, repaired, blends well. Creasing, slight soiling. Please see photos for details. Good overall.
