Cockfighting in a Garden

Comments - Interesting illustration of young boys attending a cockfight. The boys gather around with excitement as the two birds face each other in the center, their owners kneeling beside them. At right, a boy rests his hand gently on a rooster's back, while his companion stands next to a wicker cage holding another cock. An elderly man kneels on the verandah behind them, refereeing the activity, everyone leaning forward with eager anticipation. Beautifully detailed with a burnishing pattern in the black coat, and fine bokashi shading in the sky. An attractive setting with a blossoming cherry tree framing the scene.

Artist - Chikanobu (1838 - 1912)

Image Size - 13 3/4" x 27 5/8"

Condition - This print with excellent color and detail as shown. Three separate panels, backed with paper. Faint toning at edges, slight soiling, a few small creases. Please see photos for details. Good overall.
