Ueno Park by Koho Shoda (1871 - 1946)

Original Koho Shoda (1871 - 1946) Japanese Woodblock Print
Ueno Park

Comments - Wonderful view of a mother and child walking through Ueno Park at night, glimpsed through the trunks of tall pine trees as they approach a set of stairs. The child carries a tiny glowing lantern on a pole, and the warm orange lights from houses on the far shore glimmer on the water below. A slender crescent moon can be seen high in the sky beyond the tree branches. A beautiful scene. From Hasegawa/Nishinomiya Publisher's lyrical "Night Scenes" series, stamped "Made in Japan" on reverse.
