Waiting on a Bridge, 1857

Comments - Interesting kabuki scene of two men waiting on a bridge. The fellow at left looks over his shoulder with a worried expression, his eyes wide. He wears a floral coat over a black kimono and gray leggings, his arms clutched nervously to his chest. His companion eyes him suspiciously, his hands tucked inside his robe. A road runs along the shore of the river below, with travelers and vendors making their way, and the spire of a pagoda and a red temple roof rise above the foliage in the distance. An attractive design with expressive figures and fine bokashi shading in the sky.

Artist - Toyokuni III/Kunisada (1786 - 1864)

Image Size - 14 3/8" x 9 7/8" + margins as shown

Condition - With excellent color and detail as shown. Slight paper remnants on reverse at top corners from previous mounting. A couple small holes, repaired. Faint toning and slight soiling in margins, a few creases, slight rubbing at bottom edge. Please see photos for details. Good overall.
