Relaxing on a Verandah, 1857

Series; Seven Beauties of the Present Day

Relaxing on a Verandah, 1857 - Handsome kabuki scene of the two men relaxing on a verandah overlooking the Sumida River. The seated man wears a boldly patterned blue and white cotton kimono, a towel draped over his shoulder and a book in his hand. He frowns unhappily as he looks up at his companion, who stares down at him soberly. He also holds a book in his hand. A few boats can be seen on the water, and stairs lead to a torii gate on the opposite shore. One of the actors is Ichikawa Kodanji IV. A nice design with fine bokashi shading in the water and night sky.

Artist - Toyokuni III/Kunisada (1786 - 1864)

Image Size - 14 3/8" x 9 7/8" + margins as shown

Condition - With excellent color and detail as shown. Slight paper remnants on reverse at top corners from previous mounting. A couple small holes, repaired. Faint toning and slight soiling in margins, a few creases. Please see photos for details. Good overall.
