Numazu: Arashi Enzaburo II as the Porter Heisaku - Great portrait of Arashi Enzaburo II (formerly Arashi Kanjuro I) as the porter Heisaku in the famous kabuki play "The Igagoe Revenge." The elderly man tries to earn a living carrying bags for travelers on the road that ran past his home in Numazu. Here, he looks up with an agitated expression, one hand thrown out in alarm at his side. He is missing a tooth, and his face is shadowed with gray from not shaving, and hunched with age and hard work. He wears a plaid kimono over a warm yellow under robe with a burnished black collar. The view above shows rice fields stretching out into the distance, with markers and signposts near his small hut at right. A poignant, expressive figure.
