Flower Viewing at the Golden Pavilion, 1854

Comments - Handsome triptych depicting Prince Genji and a group of beauties enjoying a visit to the Golden Pavilion in Kyoto to view the blossoming cherry trees. The young nobleman smiles happily as he looks over his shoulder at the impressive structure topped with a golden phoenix. A small girl kneels at his side holding his sword, gesturing excitedly. The two women at left carry a picnic set and a tobacco set and pipe. Includes embossing in the white kimono trim and fine bokashi shading in the water and sky. A beautiful view of the pond and grounds of this famous landmark, framed by a flowering cherry tree at right.

Artist - Toyokuni III/Kunisada (1786 - 1864)

Image Size - 14" x 28 1/2" + margins as shown

Condition - With excellent color and detail as shown. Three panels, attached at the seams. A few small losses and holes, repaired, blends well. Creasing, slight soiling. Please see photos for details.
