Nun and Nobleman, 1854

Comments - Handsome scene from the kabuki play commonly known as "Narukami" featuring Otani Tomomatsu I as a nun and Bando Takesaburo I as a nobleman at the hermitage of the evil priest Narukami. The nobleman kneels on the ground, looking up with a frown as the nun places her hand on his shoulder. He wears a beautiful blue kimono patterned with colorful blossoms, tucked into pink and yellow floral hakama pants, a folding fan extending from one sleeve. The nun's hair is cut short and pulled back into a simple ponytail, and she wears a yellow robe beneath a pleated black garment. A waterfall rushes straight down behind them, where Nakukami has imprisoned the dragon god, causing a drought. An attractive design, nicely colored.
